HELP US TOWARD OWNING OUR FOREVER HOME!
Raised $62,302 of $300,000
Every dollar helps restore our historic building, repair recent water damage from roof leaks, and pay down the mortgage on the building. Your gift will be added to all regular revenue that can be invested in the building, ensuring that Fresno Ideaworks remains and improves. Thousands of creative people from Fresno and all around the Central Valley have visited Fresno Ideaworks over the past 14 years, and many have come to think of it as a second home where creativity is nurtured and blooms. We are determined to remain in downtown Fresno, and we welcome your support!
"Having recently moved back to Fresno I needed a space to creatively express myself and Ideaworks is the perfect place. I have been able keep skills up to date and learn new competencies to apply to projects I am working on. The space with all it's various mediums (wood shop, modern fab, welding, textiles, and ceramics) and the communities of each shop offer perspectives to help tackle any issues I would encounter during a project. I'm glad I found Fresno Ideaworks because it provides me a workspace with a community to help grow my skills. The collaborative nature of the workshop has been great for any roadblocks I encounter during a project that is hard to replicate. The community to the shop space accessibility makes staying in Fresno long term appealing. -RB"

Our Makerspace

Fresno's Maker community makes it's home at 1730 H Street in downtown Fresno, California, in the historic "Crown Plunge" building. Built in 1928 by Clyde and Lloyd Jackson and managed by Reg Dauner, the Crown Plunge was the longest-operating swimming pool in Fresno when it closed in 1847. After removing the tank and installing their printing and engraving business, the Crown Plunge building remained in the Jackson family until 2018, when Fresno Ideaworks agreed to purchase it and create a permanent home for Fresno Ideaworks. Since then we have worked diligently to maintain our comprehensive woodshop, "weldatorium", machine shop, tech classroom & hackerspace, ceramics studio, textiles & fiber arts studio, modern fabrications lab, lampwork (torch flamework) glass art station, and stained glass station, as well as open shop nights in tech, ceramics, textiles, glass, and live model drawing.  Stay tuned for more as we grow and evolve!

This is an introductory course on how to use the CNC machine with an emphasis on safety. In this class, you will examine the entire work flow of the CNC process, learn how to import geometry, investigate certain editing techniques, and the necessary requirements to create the g-code for tool calibration.  This final process will include setting feed and speed, how to input specifications of the raw material, etc. Finally, students will be able learn how to setup the device, how to load and secure materials, and how to set the home position and run a simple job.  This introductory class does not include any Computer Aided Design (CAD) instruction.

This unique class provides information and techniques that differ from those used on other CNC machines at Ideaworks. Certification on other similar machines does not grant permission to use others. Ideaworks members who have completed another Ideaworks CNC certification may register for this course at the "I Want More!" rate.

Upon completion of this introductory class, students will have earned their Programming Level 1.  Programming Level 2 can be earned after running a minimum of 5 successful jobs while under instructor supervision.  This level includes programming and operation. Unsupervised access will be determined by instructor approval only.

    Prerequisites:

    • Basic understanding of Windows File Structure
    • Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
